EcoSchools UK
We were given an allotment by the Town Council in May 2004. This was a little late to produce many vegetables for the summer season. Nevertheless, teachers of the science department had two energetic digging sessions, and a group of students managed to really get things started with a lunchtime dig (see photo).
In 2004 we managed to grow beans, courgettes, strawberries and marrows. Jack managed to persuade Stewart's Gardenlands of Christchurch to donate two fruit trees that were planted in July. (for photo, click here) Gardenlands also provided many British native species that have been planted in the Science department's wild area at school.
During a Sunday morning session in October, the allotment was prepared for Winter. Daffodil bulbs, onions and some soft fruit were planted.

Clearing weeds in May
And more!
Preparation for 2005
Mrs Case has been given a small grant by School Fund to purchase seeds, plants and materials for next season. The first meeting of the allotment group on March 3rd was enthusiastically attended by students who have sown seeds ready for the new season. As the weather is cold, the seed trays have been placed under a light bank. They will be hardened off in the greenhouse over Easter and will be planted out during April and May.
Clearing up the mess!
ECO DAY JULY 12th 2005
A team of Year 9 students visited the allotment for an hour's strenuous activity. Beans, rhubarb, onions and raspberries were gathered, and some were used for lunch.
THE ALLOTMENT 2006
Further development of the allotment took place throughout 2006 with Mrs Case running lunchtime visits. Again, a team visited the allotment on eco Day to gather vegetables.
Mrs Case left at Christmas 2006 and the allotment was taken over by Ms Wood, the canteen manager.
THE ALLOTMENT 2007
Ms Wood started to clear the allotment she inherited very enthusiastically. A keen gardener, Ms Wood intends using the allotment to raise produce for school meals!
In summer 2007, we were lucky enough tos ee two new developments on the school site...
We have obtained money for raised beds (see 'What we Do 2006 - 2007') These are a huge success.
Mr McNulty and Mr Richardson have satrted land-based science. Mr Mitchell 'Dug for Victory' on Eco Day with a team of Year 9s tp launch our new allotment on site!
