BIRDWATCH 2007 |
Thirty two
students from all years except Year 11 took part in the Birdwatch survey of 2007.
This is twice the number that took part in 2006. Students did the survey in
exactly the same way as it is carried out at home: for one hour they wrote down
the largest number of birds they saw at any one time. This means that, for
instance, some students saw 26 pied wagtails all at once!
Three birds are shown in bold. Pied wagtails and common gulls are described by RSPB as ‘less common birds’. However, we already know that gulls find students' left over food very tasty and wait for everyone to go back into school and appear on site after lunch. Pied wagtails are, in fact, quite common birds of Hampshire and Dorset playgrounds. Buzzards, however, were quite unexpected and two were seen by three separate groups of students during the recording period. A link to photos of the event is here.
