What survey results are shown?

This page provides links to the results of several of our surveys.  Two of these were part of our first Environmental Review that we carried out in 2003. The two students involved have now left school. Other surveys have been carried out in 2004 and 2005. The litter and recycling surveys of 2006 were carried out by Eco pupils for the Year 9 Eco Day. A 2007 survey was carried out on Friday Nov 30th.  Another survey is planned in early 2008.

Graphs are NOT usually shown because you or your teachers might like to graph the data yourselves. The exception is WATER where  Year 9 students on Eco Day worked with the downloaded data to produce a series of graphs. Our water meter has currently broken down and Radcom have said that they will deal with this in the autumn (2007). We can then start monitoring again.

What survey results are NOT shown?

  • Some students have taken part in national survey, such as Springwatch. The results of these and of small surveys, such as the national bluebell count, the UK Snail Survey, or BTO's owl count, are not shown here.
  • Battery recycling is very successful at Ringwood. We monitor it but we only record when a plastic box that has been filled with batteries is taken for to a recycling centre. The batteries are all shapes and sizes and there is not much point in counting them! We can say, that throughout the school year 2004 -2005, we collected SEVEN large plastic crates full of household batteries. In 2005 - 2006, this rose to TEN, and so far this year, our 2006 - 2007 total is FIFTEEN!
  • Likewise, we have been monitoring the recycling of plastic bottles but it's difficult to count because the bin men take away the skip!  Our target is to reduce the number of plastic bottles thrown into ordinary bins and thus going for landfill. The number of classrooms with bottle bins has grown steadily and we now have external bins for bottles and cans.
  • We have collected 1/2 ton of milk bottle tops this year!  Last year, it was 22kg! That's a lot of bottle tops! Remember that this supports Naomi House.
  • Data for corks, postage stamps, CDs and DVDs is being prepared. the ladies in reception keep records of these collections are are short staffed due to sickness (Oct07 -Feb 08)
